Track Etiquette

At TEES we run a safe, well-organised and welcoming track environment for members of all abilities. We ask everyone to follow these guidelines to keep training safe and enjoyable for all.

General rules

  • Stick to the inside lane wherever possible. Pass on the outside and return to the inside once clear
  • Avoid running more than two abreast
  • Never stop on the track — if you need to pull up, step off to the infield
  • We ask that those not participating in coach-led sessions stay clear of the track while in use

Monday night sessions

Monday nights run a distance group and a sprint group simultaneously, with the track divided into two working zones.

Distance group
Lanes 1 to 4
Sprint group
Lanes 5 to 8
Back straight always, bends and home straight as required

Before 6pm

Before 6pm, TEES shares the oval with Carina Cricket Club and other training groups. Please extend them the same courtesy we expect in return and adjust your warm-up accordingly.

For example, if the cricket club is using the back straight, run horseshoes instead, using the bends and home straight.

Junior athletes (5 to 10)

Junior athletes aged 5 to 10 participating in the main training groups must be accompanied and supervised on the track by a parent or guardian at all times.

Enforcement

TEES coaches and committee members have the authority to ask any athlete to leave the track if these rules are consistently not being followed. Our preference is always to educate first, but the safety and enjoyment of all members must come first. If you have questions about any of these rules, speak to a coach or committee member before or after a session.
